Beefy Fried Rice

Beefy Fried Rice

Our Beefy Fried Rice is a real meal-in-one that you can have ready for your gang in just 15 minutes! This hearty, Asian-inspired dish is perfect for when you're in a rush, or any time that you don't want to spend all evening cooking!

What You'll Need:
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 red bell pepper, cut into 1-inch chunks
  • 1/4 pound snow peas
  • 3 cups cold cooked rice
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 teaspoons sesame oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 scallions, thinly sliced
What To Do:
  1. In a large nonstick skillet over medium heat, combine ground beef and garlic; cook 8 to 10 minutes, or until beef is browned and no pink remains, stirring occasionally to crumble beef. Drain off excess liquid and remove beef to a bowl.
     
  2. Place water in the skillet and heat over medium-high heat until hot; add bell pepper and snow peas and cook 4 to 5 minutes, or until pepper is crisp-tender, stirring occasionally. Add rice, soy sauce, sesame oil, ginger, and black pepper; mix well. Return beef to skillet and cook 5 minutes, or until heated through. Stir in scallions just before serving.

It tastes better with the bell pepper sliced in 1"x1/4" pieces and beef Eye of Round sliced THIN. Would work well with any type of thinly sliced meat instead of ground. The different oils that can be used for HIGH temp cooking ( peanut, vegie, sunflower ect.) each impart a different flavor. I suggest you try a different oil each time you fix the recipe. The sesame oil ( light or dark(toasted) is a finishing oil that should be tried, but can be left out.

This is fantastic! The sesame oil is a must! You cannot get the same unique Asian flavor with any other oil. And the snow peas add a nice crunch (so would sliced water chestnuts if you like them.) I also added a few shelled edamame beans. I used minced ginger from Penzeys.

I would give this 4 stars because it is very similar to mine. I add diced, sauteed green onions, yellow onion and scrambled egg. Now that is 5 Stars!

For all those who don't like sesame oil you can use any other oil. This recipe is a westernized version. True Oriental stir-fry uses high temperatures (400), but this recipe states MEDIUM heat (325 to 374).

After further thought, I want to mention flavored stir-fry oil. It is generally flavored with garlic, ginger, lemon grass and other herbs. The brands Tsang and Kame are readily found in my grocery, but look for this with other Asian sauces and canned goods. Flavor can vary between brands. If you replace the sesame oil with a flavored oil you won't need to add the ground ginger.

Thank you Juner - I love your comments. I wonder if they ask for the carb and sugar figures etc. etc. when they go to the restaurants. I hate to read their comments, so as soon as I realize what they are asking for, I ignore it. Just say yes or no not how healthy is it. LOL

When I make any kind (meat) of fried rice I always use peanut oil. I agree with some of the comments about sesame oil. I don't care for it either.

Thought it was great. Left out the peas and bell pepper and used peas and carrots instead. Just a fatter version of chicken fried rice )

I wish you would find another recipe site to fit your needs. We, who love Mr. Food, are looking for comments on taste, ingredient substitutions and overall satisfaction of the recipe. Mr. Food rarely post carbs and sugars and we don't care!

This would be great with ground chicken or ground turkey, too. Wouldn't need to cook the chicken or turkey as long as the beef either.

How about olive oil? Or canola oil, or corn oil, or peanut oil, or grape seed oil? Or perhaps walnut oil, or soybean oil, or sunflower oil, or safflower oil? Coconut oil? The mind boggles.

I use Wesson Vegetable Oil.
