Made it tonight, we both liked it. It needed a little salt.

I made this for dinner the other night and I didn't feel it had as much flavor as it should have. Maybe I added too much sour cream. I just added 3/4 of a container of a 15 oz. container figuring it would be equal to 11/2 cups. Next time I will measure more accurately to see if it comes out any different. It was still OK.

I've made this for years. My husband loves it. It's fast, easy, and delicious!

great recipe add a beef bouillon cube to beef can also add some dry onion soup ix fresh garlic always add more flavor

FOR FLAVOR JUST ADD LIPTON ONION OR MUSHROOM DRY MIX TO YOUR MEAT OF CHOOSE. BEEF BOUILLON CUBES WORK WELL TO

Looks pretty good. Will try it soon!

I spent some time and money making this dish but found it very bland and tasteless. People should not post recipes that are less than fantastic. I'll not use this site for recipes in the future.

I wish I would have read the other reviews before I made this. It has way to much sour cream and was very bland. I added a lot of pepper, salt, garlic and onion powder and still didn't have much flavor.

Just to be different I made this with hot Italian sausage and one small finely-chopped onion. I kept to the rest of the recipe and it was a big hit for a middle of the week meal with the kids. Make sure you side it with a simple green salad!

I'm a sixty five year old guy who has never cooked much. I tried this and found it to be easy and delicious.

This was easy and not as good as I would have liked it. Will add little more seasoning and only 3/4 cup sour cream. Three stars.

What might help is to use a package of McCormick's Taco Seasoning to the meat while it is being browned.

Hamburger isn't very flavorful, so to kick it up a notch try adding a can of beef consomm, a tablespoon of red wine vinegar and a tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce before you stir in your cream of mushroom soup.

I'll definately make this dish very soon since it sounds easy quick to make on a very busy day A traditiinal Stroganoff is a bit more involved and takes somewhat longer I'll definately 'lighten it up' a bit by using the 'healthier' version of Campbell's soup 'lite' Sour Cream and 'Whole Wheat' Egg Noodles my family I love the taste but some folks don't I usually use fresh garlic in my dishes but I'm sure that garlic powder will work just as well in this application I'll serve it 'Family Style' so that everyone can help themselves to however much or how little they care to eat I'll also chop up a small bowl of fresh parsley so that everyone can sprinkle some on top of their dish I'm sure my family will enjoy this delicious sounding looking meal every bit as I'm looking forward to preparing it The ingredients areRead More already on my next week's grocery list

Use only a cup of sour cream and a can of cream of chicken instead of cream of mushroom, it gives it more flavor.

I have made this several times for family and friends and its a hit. Definitely an add to the recipe file! We do leave out the additional mushrooms because a few of us don't care for mushrooms that much.

Big hit with the family. I must say though, a bit bland as written. I added some salt and a lot more black pepper. Next time I might try reducing the sour cream a bit, it's an awful lot. All in all though, very good.

Just before serving I would add two tsp. dill weed.

I made this Wednesday evening for dinner and it was a hit with my family. They liked the hamburger much better than the chunks of beef and so did I. I doubled the recipe and used extra onion, garlic and fresh mushrooms. It was delicious and sure to be one of our favorites!

I add a couple stalks of chopped celery during browning and 1 cup dry red wine and half an envelope of onion soup mix during the cooking time.

those ingredients sound good.

I use canned mushrooms, also add 3 T dry parsley flakes with the sour cream. Can also eat on toast or rice.

I haven't tried this yet, but wonder if there is a substitute for the canned soup? It is way too high in sodium.

I am a heart patient on low sodium diet. If you will use the Reduced Sodium or Low Sodium soup I believe you will be all right. Just watch your portions when you eat. You will also see a lot of Heart Healthy soups on the market these days with reduced sodium content.

I believe you can substitue a white sauce for the soup. You can flavor it with bouillion or broth. Add fresh or canned mushrooms.

All Recipes has a simple recipe for a home made cream soup base. You can then add mushrooms, celery or chicken to obtain the flavored canned soup of choice.

I've used this recipe for years and is a quick and delicious meal. One suggestion, though, add one beef bullion cube. It makes a stronger beef taste.

A couple of splashes of Worcheshire sauce is a nice added flavor, too.

My Family and I have been Enjoying this Recipe for Years:)

Been making this for years and called it "hambuger gravy". Put it on rice, noodles, bread or biscuits and potatoes. I add about a heaping tablespoon of sour cream and it gives it an extra kick. OOOhhhh so good both ways.

There is already a cup and a half of sour cream. Hard to imagine a tablespoon more will make any difference.. But a tablespoon of worcestershire sauce does!

I need a peanut butter desert recipe that Mr. Food did last year 2011 it was a quick easy aired in either june or july of 2011. please send it to my e-mail address last 4th of July everyone loved it and I can't fing the recipe.

Did you ever get the peanut dessert recipe? I would love to have it if you did. Thanks

My family did not care doe this!!

Do you drain the ground beef after browning? Looks Good!

Delicious!!

adding a couple tablespoons of ketchup gives this just a little bit of zing.

I agree!

This was so good.Never. liked fresh mushrooms but used them anyways and it was awesome added a couple tablespoons of milk so wasn't so thick. Good dinner never going to use hamburger helper strogannoff any more.

i have made similar versions of this recipe for over years always good i am not fond of sour cream or mushrooms but my family love it so i take my portion out before adding the sour cream the mushrooms are not a problem nor the soup as mushrooms cooked in good food make it so much better i experiment with it a lot a good meal can make quickly and a winner for my family i have also put a bit of cooking sherry in it and it gives it a fuller body or richer taste to me and i am not a sherry drinker but a good recipe experiment with it a bit its pretty hard to mess up as long as u add or substitute small amounts until you find your niche just my thoughts on this i serve it with some hot garlic loaf my family canRead More only say oh mom yumm

Sherry is a must! I don't drink it either, but always have a bottle of dry sherry for cooking.

What should you do if you have no sour cream?

When I've made this and had no sour cream I've used cream cheese. If you have neither use a soup can of milk. This will make it runnier so don't cook the noodles all the way, add them to the hamburger mixture so they will absorb the extra liquid.

Use greek plain yougart. I use it on top of baked potatoes and tastes just like sour cream. also use it dip my veg. in. Oinki Greek yougart-plain

For a slightly different taste, add a tsp of dill weed when you are browning the meat. It gives it a much fresher flavor.

I have been making this for almost 30 years...I always add more sour cream than it asks for....love it.

A canned mushroom gravy would work. I don't eat meat, so I'd use a veggie product for the beef part, but carnivores could probably use canned beef gravy. The sour cream would still give it the stroganoff touch.

Meant for this to be as a reply to Oakvillegirl's question about substitutes for the mushroom soup.

Family not a fan of the mushroom soup. Isn't there a different combination that can replace the soup? Soup made it very "ok".

Try using chicken and cream of chicken soup. I dont like mushrooms so I would leave them out but I do like things cooked with mushroom soup

Cream of celery soup or just a basic white sauce would work I think.

You could stir in a couple tablespoons of flour after the meat has cooked...just make sure there is some fat in the skillet....then add a can of beef broth, stir until the sauce thickens and then add the sour cream...

This is right out of the Betty Crocker 1970 cookbook, without all of the flavor Betty put into it. Yes, it does need worcestershire sauce, and I always put in just a tablespoon of ketchup too, just to add a little richness. It's so much better with a fresh garlic clove. This has been a favorite since about, oh, 1970!

A little soy sauce is good too!!

My family doesn't care for soy sauce, at ALL.

This was pretty bland, really needs a shot of worchestershire.
