Sloppy Joes are an American favorite, for sure! C'mon, what family doesn't have a Sloppy Joe night? After all, it's the one meal the kids (and all of us) really love.

What You'll Need

  • 2 pounds ground beef or veal
  • 1 (10-3/4-ounce) can tomato soup
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 2 teaspoons dried oregano
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon hot pepper sauce
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 4 to 6 hamburger buns, split and toasted

What to Do

  1. In a large skillet, cook meat over medium heat until browned, stirring occasionally to break it up. Spoon off any fat.

  2. Add remaining ingredients, except buns; cook 3 to 5 minutes, stirring frequently. Serve on toasted buns.

Forget Manwich!! This is our favorite way to make Sloppy Joes.

An easier version I have made since 1957. 1 pound ground beef, browned. Add 2 tablespoons mustard and catsup and 1 can of chicken gumbo soup. Simmer 5 minutes and serve on buns

Used your recipe for years. Last few years, unable to find gumbo soup. Where do you find it. I'm near Cleveland, oh.

This is a true 'classic'. In my opinion, the only thing that's lacking are some diced onions. Why click on to an old classic if you're going to change it around SO drastically (since then you're only rating your 'own version' of the original dish). First rate the 'original' dish after you've already made and eaten it. You never rate a dish based upon your own changes, which I found that in most cases actually spoiled the dish!

I agree with you 100%, so many people rate their version instead of the recipe shown. I just ignore them.

Love It!!! Only changes I made were to leave out the Worcestershire sauce and use salsa instead of ketchup. We enjoy the spice here.

Turned out very well! I sauteed a medium chopped onion, 4 cloves chopped garlic, 3 mini bell peppers chopped in olive oil, added 1/4 teaspoon mustard and seasoned with Tony Chachere's Creole Seasoning. Husband just had two of them! I will use this recipe again!

Add a medium chopped onion, 3 or 4 bay leaves, and 2 tsp. basil. mmmmm

NOTHING would compare to my Grandmother's recipe for Sloppy Joes!!! She slow-cooked the meat for HOURS and? It was SOO DELICIOUS . . .

I'm going to try this tonight but I'm going to omit some hot ingredients. I also want to make it for just one serving and use meatless crumbles instead of ground beef. 03marjorie5077195
