I thought it was very salty, maybe the dry onion soup could have been left out. It was very liquidy, so I thickened the liquid with cornstarch. Even so my family seemed to like it.

We liked it a lot. Just two of us. I used 3/4 pound top round. Cooked some noodles added them to the crock pot 10 minutes before serving. Turned out great.

Nice mild flavor, good for kids. Perk up the flavor with a couple of fresh sliced or chopped jalapeo chiles and a dash or more of ground cumin. Use mashed potato or rice as a side.

This recipe is fabulous. This is my sons most requested dinner. We bump up the amount of beef. But that's just to make sure we have leftovers.

Yes, you can substitute the beef with pork in this recipe. Just remember to use pork butt or pork loin, and not pork tenderloin. Enjoy!

Hello! - You can substitute another dry flavor soup mix for the dry onion soup mix, and just leave out the onions altogether. The dry soup mix adds flavor without all the liquid. Enjoy!

The gravy came out way to watery. I would recommend adding some flour to help thicken it up or add less water. I wasn't overly impressed with the taste either. Needed something more in my opinion.

After reading this comment, I coated the beef cubes with cornstarch before adding to cooker. Cornstarch browns better than flour in these applications. I finished with some butter to smooth the gravy.

Great recipe! Add some sour cream at the end and you will have a fine stroganoff. Also, those using Hollands and other "cooking wines", salt is added so they can be sold with condiments and not with other alcoholic products. Keep that in mind when adding any additional salt.

Using wine in any recipe will give your meat and gravy and any vegetables you use a wonderful flavor. The alcohol is cooked off any the delicious flavor is left behind and it is also used for its acidity. I have a crockpot recipe for chickenwhere I use white wine and it is wonderful. I can't wait to make this beef recipe, it sounds very simple.

I think it looks amazing!!!! It looks a little hard and a little easy and I think this is very helpful. If you want the gravy to be thick keep it where you cooked it but let it simmer then turn it off and the longer you let it sit the thicker it will be. (P.S I really want to be a cook so I am learning from my mom who is an amazing cook)

Leave out the beef broth and wine and the gravy will come out thick and rich and not at all "soupy". If you want more beef flavor, add a flavor boost pack.

Hi Dawn, I am not sure where you live and what products your local store carries. However, I can tell you that Campbell's beef broth is condensed. That is typically a brand that most stores carry. Good luck and enjoy!

I haven't actually made this but intend to using the meat off our soup bones (REAL soup bones, not like you buy in stores). I'm pretty sure the difference is the condensed has half the water than regular beef broth and you're supposed to dilute it w/a can or water. Regular beef broth has all the water in it. This might explain why Dawn R D's turned to sour w/the regular broth. Hope this helps.

I was unable to find a can of condensed beef broth so I used a can of regular beef broth in this recipe. At the end of the 8 hours in the slow cooker, I had SOUP...So, I went ahead and added my whole grain wide noodles (uncooked) to the "soup" and the noodles absorbed the broth in less than 1/2 hour and it was quite good. What is Concensed Beef Broth in a can and where can I get it?

Simply add a can of beef broth they also have consumme which has a richer flavor this recipe is supposed to cook with a broth type gravy which when done ,you use to pour over mashed potatoes or rice along with the meat this is a good recipe and makes great use of chuck roast which tenderizes as it cooks
