- 25 Min
You don't need to win the lottery to eat like the rich and famous. Our Million Dollar Cupcakes are a simple, yet decadent, dessert made from only 6 ingredients! You'll live without a care in the world as you enjoy every moist and yummy bite!
What You'll Need
- 1 (15-1/4-ounce) package chocolate cake mix
- 1 (8-ounce) package cream cheese, softened
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 (12-ounce) package semisweet chocolate chips, divided
- 3/4 cup heavy cream
What to Do
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Line muffin cups with paper liners.
- Make cake mix according to package directions. Spoon batter into muffin cups, filling each cup about 1/2 full.
- In a large bowl, beat cream cheese and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in egg, then stir in 1 cup chocolate chips. Drop 1 teaspoon cream cheese mixture onto each cupcake.
- Bake as cake mix package directs. Let cool.
- Place remaining chocolate chips in a medium bowl. In a small saucepan over medium heat, bring heavy cream to a boil, stirring constantly. Pour over chocolate chips and stir until mixture is smooth. Let ganache cool 5 to 10 minutes, or until slightly thickened. Spoon over top of each cupcake. Refrigerate until ready to serve.

When I make chocolate cakes/cupcakes I always add a teaspoon of cinnamon to the batter. Or add to your taste. Cinnamon and chocolate go so well together. TRy it some time. Haven't made these yet but am this month for a birthday.

Hello! In this recipe you should use granulated sugar. As a general rule, when we write sugar we mean granulated. Have fun baking these delicious cupcakes (we actually just made some here).

Hi there! We haven't tested a 'Million Dollar Cake,' but we're pretty sure it could be made. Our concern is with the dropping of the cream cheese into the batter in a layer cake, since we're not sure if this would be too heavy. If you give it a try, please let us know how it turns out. You never know, you might just see this as a new recipe in the future! :)

Hi Debra! - You don't need to put a layer of batter on top of the cream cheese layer. The cream cheese mixture is heavy, so when it bakes it sinks down and the batter bakes around it.

I made these today & I wish I would have layered the cake batter & cr cheese with a final layer of batter before baking. They probably would look like the photo above. Delicious anyway.

What did I do wrong? The cream cheese mixture just spread out on top and does not look anything like picture? Did you put cream cheese mixture in muffin cups first then the batter?

Hello! We're not sure what may have gone wrong, but you should not put in the cream cheese mixture first. You should put the batter first, and then drop a teaspoon-ful of the cream cheese mixture into the center. The mixture will sink to the bottom while the cake batter bakes around it.

I used a german chocolate cake mix because that's what I had on hand. I put the extra batter and cream cheese - choc chip filling in a loaf pan (I used parchment paper and buttered the ends. That made it easy to remove from pan) and let the loaf pan bake about 10 - 15 minutes longer (check with toothpick). It turned out just like the cupcakes. Spread the ganache all over top. I liked to microwave for 15 seconds before serving. My 9 year old granddaughter said it was the best cupcake she ever had. :0)

Just finished making these. They taste wonderful without the ganache and pretty good with the ganache. Followed the recipe and had a lot of extra filling - so just added more to each cupcake and it worked fine. I had enough ganache to frost extra cupcakes. Next time I make make the ganache with milk chocolate chips if they would work - my husband doesn't like dark chocolate. I added this to my recipe box here and printed out a copy for my recipe folder at home.

I make these often....I add the cream cheese, egg, sugar ...beat until smooth, then I add chocolate chips to mixture and teaspoon into the batter. Before i put them into the oven, I sprinkle the top with some sugar and chopped pecans. I have also just added a chocolate kiss, Rolo, peanut butter cup, etc to the batter....all are yummy.

It does say to add some of the chocolate chips to the cream cheese mixture and then make the ganache with the remaining chips and the cream for the frosting. I don't think the chips in the cream cheese mixture melt and then are stirred into the mixture. They just melt where they are so to speak.

You don't melt the chips for the filling so it stays white.
