Corner Store Orange Favorite

Remember the ice cream novelties we used to get at the corner store? Well, our Corner Store Orange Favorite is a creamy orange treat that'll remind you of your favorite snack from yesteryear.

What You'll Need

  • 2 (4-serving) packages orange-flavored gelatin
  • 3 cups boiling water
  • 1 quart orange sherbet
  • 1 cup (1/2 pint) heavy cream

What to Do

  1. Place gelatin in a large bowl and add boiling water; stir until gelatin is dissolved. Add sherbet and stir until it melts; set aside.

  2. In a medium bowl, whip the heavy cream with an electric beater for 4 to 5 minutes, until stiff peaks form. Fold whipped cream into sherbet mixture and pour into a 10-inch Bundt pan.

  3. Refrigerate overnight to set. When ready to serve, invert pan onto platter and cut into slices.

OH BOY!!!!!!! Looks SOOOOO yummy and cooling in this summer's heat!!!! Will definitely try this!!!!!! OH YES!!!!!

Do you need to line the pan so that the dessert comes out easily? If so, what do you line it with?

Hi there! No, you do not need to line the pan in this recipe. Enjoy!

how do you fold in the cream into the liquid, it doesn't come out smooth....

Hi there! When the Test Kitchen makes this recipe, we use a rubber spatula and stir for 3-5 minutes. Make sure to not over whip the cream, stopping after peaks form. If you find that there are still some lumps in the mixture, we recommend using a whisk. Enjoy!

Will other flavors work?

Hi there! Yes, other flavors like raspberry, lime or lemon would make great substitutions. :) Enjoy!

Suggestion, how about using the size of the gelatin pack instead of the number of servings.

Hi there! We list the number of servings in this recipe because the gelatin package sizes have changed over the years. While the amount of gelatin in each packet has changed, the serving sizes have not, so we write the recipe this way. We hope that you enjoy this recipe just as much as we did when we created it.

It looks like there are 2 layers. Do they separate like that or is there a step missing?

Hi there! Thanks for the comment! This recipe separates on its own, just like you can see in the recipe photo. If you do make this recipe and like it, send us a photo on Facebook. We love to feature readers' cooking our recipes. Enjoy!

OMG, this recipe brought back SOOO many pleasant memories of growing up and going to the little corner grocery store for an afternoon treat! Believe it or not, they only cost a nickle way back then! They also had bananna & raspberry flavored ones sometimes, so I'm sure that we can adjust this recipe in order to make those flavors, as well. Thanks for this timeless recipe!
