  • 1 (4-serving-size) package instant chocolate pudding
  • 1 pint sour cream

  • 1 cup water
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 cup chocolate chips

What to Do

  1. Coat a 3-quart slow cooker with cooking spray.
  2. In a large bowl, combine all ingredients; mix well until smooth. Pour into slow cooker.
  3. Cook on low 4 to 5 hours, or until set in center. Remove cooker from base and let cool 30 minutes.

Notes

  • For an even richer, more chocolate taste, drizzle with hot fudge

  • Recipe courtesy of  "The Crockin' Girls: Slow Cookin' Companion" cookbook.
  • We used a 3-quart slow cooker in our Test Kitchen and the cake came out perfectly. This cake recipe will also work in a 6-quart slow cooker. However, we found that this recipe does not double well.

Oh sooooo good! Thank you for this one. Followed recipe exactly and made quickly.

How many does this serve?

Hi there! This can serve 10 (or 1 chocoholic ;).

If there is any left over (haha), do you reheat it before serving, and for how long?

Hi there! Yes, you can reheat this before serving. The Test Kitchen recommends reheating this in slow cooker on the LOW setting until it reaches desired temperature, or in the microwave. Enjoy!

Don't be so hung up about the cake mix size. Give me a break, it's only a difference of a small amount. Get so tired of seeing the comments about the cake size.

This cake is very good....the NEXT day. The 1st day it's cooked it's so bitter you can hardly eat it but the next day, after it's had the chance to rest and mellow out it changes for the better.

I went to www.cooks.com and found the recipe with directions for baking in the oven. It's called Triple Chocolate Pound Cake. I haven't made it yet but it uses the same ingredients, so it should taste pretty much the same.

Thank you!

I just bought a 18.25oz cake mix. Now, I don't have the recipe for my size cake mix. Help! Sep 18, 2014 Read more at http://www.mrfood.com/Misc-Desserts/Triple-Chocola == te-Mess-101/ml/1/?utm_source=ppl-newsletter&utm_me == dium=email&utm_campaign=mrfooddaily20140913#zAoUiH == xUBHluzgyY.99

Hi there! You can still use the 18.25 oz cake mix without making any other changes to the recipe. The difference between the two sizes is a very small amount of dry mix. Enjoy!

What brand of cake mix comes in 18.25 oz size? Where is it available?

Hello! We've gone ahead and updated the recipe to call for the new cake mix size. Thank you for your comment!

I just bought a 18.25oz cake mix at Lowes Foods, but I'm sure other grocery stores have it. Now, I don't have the recipe for my size cake mix.

How do you serve this? I can't see how you can cut a nice square, as pictured, from a crock pot.

You can cut a square, like we did in the photo, or you can serve with a scoop or a large spoon. It may be a little tricky to cut the square, but it can be done! Enjoy!

Could this recipe be put into a 9x13 cake pan and baked in an oven? It sounds so good and easy but I am not a slow cooker person. Hate the clean-up and having that big thing on my counter for hours.

Hello! Unfortunately, this recipe was designed specifically for a slow cooker and we're not sure how long it would take in the oven without testing. If you do make it this way, please be sure to let us know how it turned out!

I make this in my 9 x 13 or an angel food tube pan all the time. Bake at 350 for about 45-50 minutes.

I used spice cake mix and replaced the sour cream with cottage cheese. I reduced fat by cutting out the oil and replaced the chocolate chips with raisins. I'm disappointed with the way this recipe turned out.

No, you weren't disappointed with THIS recipe. It was 'your' recipe that wasn't fit to eat.

Having trouble posting. Sorry if I do so twice! Would recipe work o.k. in 4 or 5 qt. slow cooker? If so, how long should it cook? Also, am I right thinking the hot fudge would go on the cake after it was put on serving plate?

Hi there! Yes, you can make this recipe in a 4 qt slow cooker. The time should remain the same (4-5 hours or until center is set). Drizzle the hot fudge on the cake after it has been served. Enjoy!

for the best hot fudge ever!! melt in microwave: 4 oz of unsweet chocolate, 1 stick of butter. Blend in 3 cups sugar, this will be grainy. Then add 1 large can apron 12 oz. of evaporated milk. Microwave until boiling a couple of min. Then remove from micro wave and add 1 tbsp of vanilla flavoring. Enjoy.

Can you cook it in a bigger crockpot? Mine is six qt. how do you do any recipe that's for three qts in a six qt?

We stated in the note above that this cake will also work in a 6-quart slow cooker.

With a six qt cooker, should only cook 2 1/2 hrs.

In the "Notes" it says for a richer taste, drizzle with hot fudge

Dear Greenthumb-How about posting that Chocolate-Chocolate Bundt Cake recipe?

I have a recipe for a Chocolate-Chocolate Bundt Cake is almost the same except you don't have to use the oil or sour cream and you only bake it for 55min. My recipe is almost the same and it's the best chocolate cake we've ever eaten. Must try and compare. I would be very interested in what you think; I'm a big fan. It is truly the moistest cake we've ever had especially made with no oil. green_thumb_1_woman

I don't have a slow cooker. If I bake this in the oven, what temp and how long would I bake it?

hot fudge topping is not in the ingredient list but the picture shown includes it: that's just one of the yummy toppings! A can of cherry pie filling would be great too instead of the chocolate. The toppings are only limited to one's imagination.

IT TELLS YOU TO DRIZZLE WITH "HOT FUDGE"-THATS WHATS ON TOP!!!!!

I think the stuff on top is hot fudge sauce...

What is that chocolaty, yummy topping on this cake. The cake looks good by itself, but the topping is what makes this cake stand alone. Is it just melted chocolate? Please let us know what it is so ours can be as perfect as the picture looks! You know we don't want to leave out any of the calories on this one!!!

I just have one question. The recipe doesn't say whats on top. What did you put on top? It looks delicious!!! :p
