Amish Molasses Oatmeal Pie

Amish Molasses Oatmeal Pie

This is one of our most requested Amish pies. It'll bake up as homey and wholesome as it would on an Amish farm, but our shortcut pie crust will allow you to enjoy Amish Molasses Oatmeal Pie even during a busy week.

What You'll Need

  • 4 eggs, lightly beaten
  • 1 cup molasses
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon melted butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups quick-cooking oatmeal
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 (9-inch) unbaked deep dish pie crust

What to Do

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
     
  2. In a large bowl, combine all ingredients except pie crust; mix well then pour into pie crust.
     
  3. Bake 40 to 45 minutes, or untl center is set. Let cool 30 minutes.
     
  4. Serve pie warm, or refrigerate and serve when ready.

Note

We suggest topping this pie with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.

This is just waaaaay too sweet. It made my teeth ache. Might try again with stevia baking blend and just a little molasses--like, a short pour. Also used old-fashioned rolled oats instead of quick-cooking. Nice texture that way.

This pie tastes disgusting. The molasses flavor was so strong and I even used mild flavored molasses. I would not recommend this pie to anyone. I had to throw it away. Yuck.

Hello. Can you make this with old fashioned rolled oats instead of quick cooking oatmeal? I don't purchase the quick-cooking type. I do like molasses, so this recipe sounds delicious. Thank you!

I have made a similar pie but we always used golden syrup (not pancake syrup) instead of molasses. In Canada the syrup is made by Rogers, can't help for US brands, sorry. It is always a big hit in my home. I will try it with molasses just to see but from reading the earlier comments I will be using Fancy molasses and hope for the best.

I made the Buttermilk Pie. My Mom used to make it and it was wonderful. Mine was awful and I was very careful to follow directions. I did not use the crust. It was watery and with very little taste. I wondered if it needed Vanilla.

The Amish Molasses Oatmeal Pie sounds delicious, I will be making it soon,. I also have a recipe to share , it is Butter Milk Pie, I made it all the time for my mom& dad & my grandfather, ( who are not with us any more ), now I make it for myself , I cook it without the crust, You need 1 pie crust, brushed with egg, then mix 2c. buttermilk, 2 tbsp flour, 2 tbsp butter ( melted ), 2 eggs, 1c. sugar, 1/2 tsp nutmeg, mix well, pour into crust, bake at 375 , until a knife comes out clean ( about 45 min ), cool & serve !!

I love buttermilk pie! The first time I made it,my family wasn't any too eager to try it, but once they did, that's all she wrote - they loved it. One year for my birthday, my younger daughter made a bunch of mini buttermilk pies, enough to spell out "Happy Birthday Mom." It's so cool.

My husband and I were just talking about a Buttermilk Pie his mom used to make. We asked the relatives, but no one could remember it. Thanks!

Center is set when you insert a knife in middle and it comes out clean.

I was very disappointed...the molasses is too strong...it was horrible...a pile of whipped cream made it tolerable but I will not make this recipe again...next time I will use corn syrup and brown sugar. I love Oatmeal pie...just not with molasses...sorry Mr. Food! Love your site tho! : )

There are several types of molasses. Many are defined by the color of the label. Gold label has a light molasses taste, as does King Syrup. Green label has a very strong molasses taste. You may have used green label and not cared for the strong taste. I prefer the green, but some of my family do not. My mom used to mix them half and half. It's just a preference.

BTW--It makes me so angry that molasses has such a high price. The dark molasses fed to farm animals in the winter reflects the true low cost before bottling it. I have used the agricultural molasses and it tastes the same as Green Label.
