Pretzel and Beer Dogs

Pretzel and Beer Dogs is a two-baseball-park-favorites-in-one meal! It's a home run!
What You'll Need
- Canola oil for frying
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/3 cup crushed pretzels
- 1/3 cup cornmeal
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon dry mustard
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 cup beer
- 1 egg
- 1 pound hot dogs, cut into 1-inch chunks
What to Do
- Heat approximately 1 inch of canola oil in a large, deep frying pan over high heat.
- In a bowl, combine the flour, crushed pretzels, cornmeal, baking powder, onion powder, dry mustard, and pepper; mix well.
- In a small bowl, combine the beer and the egg. Slowly add to the flour mixture, blending well.
- Dip each hot dog chunk in the batter, coating well. Carefully place in the oil and fry until golden, turning if necessary. Remove the dogs from the oil and drain on paper towels. Serve immediately.

sorry, after checking my facts (which I should have done before commenting) flaming alcohol does not cook off the alcohol. In fact, even after simmering alcohol after 3 hours it still retains 5% alcohol. Hope this helps, and sorry for the misinformation in my previous post.

The only true way of cooking off alcohol is to flame it (flambe). Any other cooking method, including boiling it, will only remove a small portion of the alcohol. But, unless the kids are eating a ton of the hotdogs, with only 1 cup of beer in the entire recipe, it should be fine for kids.

Let me know if you try baking them, I hope it will work. You might want to put a cooling rack on a cookie sheet, so they will bake evenly

I don't use any alcoholic beverages so I substitute with "Club Soda". Low sodium and lots of carbonation plus nuetral taste. Hope this helps.

Remember that once alcohol is cooked in food the alcohol is all evaporated, so there is no alcohol content in the cooked food, only the flavor.
