Four easy ingredients are the key to this hearty German-style recipe for Sauerkraut Beer Brats. When the weather permits, grill 'em outdoors, otherwise enjoy these tasty brats cooked on the stovetop or in the broiler.

What You'll Need

  • 6 uncooked bratwurst
  • 1 (14-ounce) can sauerkraut
  • 1 (12-ounce) can beer
  • 6 hot dog buns, warmed

What to Do

  1. Puncture each bratwurst with a fork.
  2. Drain sauerkraut, placing liquid in a large resealable plastic storage bag; add beer to bag. Add brats to bag, and seal.
  3. Cover and store drained sauerkraut in refrigerator while brats marinate in refrigerator for 3 to 6 hours.
  4. Grill, broil, or fry brats for 10 to 15 minutes, or until no pink remains in the center. Serve with drained sauerkraut on warmed hot dog buns.

I saut onions in butter. When transparent I add beer and heat. Put grilled brats in and keep hot till serving. Flavors blend wonderfully. Put on buns and top with onion sauerkraut mix and whatever. Ketchup, mustard or combination. Makes me hungry!!

I cook the brats in beer add sliced onions and bell peppers and let it cook down with the kraut.... Yummy plus you can add all the spices your family likes while it is simmering

Please add pepper and some caraway seed to the sauerkraut... Then it is Oh it is so gut!!!

efkaul, I do mine the same way. Then I let the people put anything else they want on them.
