For all those times when you need a snack to get you through to your next mealtime, or for when you're hanging out on the couch watching your favorite movie, keep a bowl of Awesome Munchies on hand. It'll satisfy all your cravings for crispy, crunchy, and yummy!

What You'll Need

  • 5 cups oven-toasted rice cereal, such as Chex
  • 1 cup pretzel sticks
  • 1 cup peanuts
  • 1 cup cheese crackers
  • 1/4 cup (1/2-stick) melted butter, slightly cooled
  • 3 tablespoons steak sauce
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

What to Do

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Coat a rimmed baking sheet with cooking spray.
     
  2. In a large resealable bag, mix together cereal, pretzels, peanuts, and crackers.
     
  3. In a small bowl, combine butter, steak sauce, and salt. Pour over cereal mixture and shake gently until cereal mixture is evenly coated. Spread in a single layer on prepared baking sheet.
     
  4. Bake 10 minutes. Cool and serve.

Notes

  • If you prefer, you can heat the mixture in the microwave 5 to 6 minutes, instead of baking it in the oven.
     
  • It's always good to have a healthy snack on hand, especially in between meals. One we like to keep around here is our homemade Granola Bars!

In a few short weeks the kids will be out of school. Do you have your snack stash ready? This sounds like a really yummy one. I have made this type of mix before but the addition of steak sauce is a new twist for me. I can not wait to try it.

I love me some snack mix like this. I thought I had tried every version out there. I was wrong. This recipe calls for steak sauce in the mix and I had never heard of that. Because the recipe does not indicate a brand I guess it is cooks choice. Looking for the A-1 sauce right now.

I made this using Heinz 57 steak sauce and neither my husband nor I like it. It has very little taste. If I do this again, I'll use a Worcestershire-based sauce, and if it's better, I'll re-rate and re-comment.

If you need nutritional info-look at each package of ingredients that are used in the recipe. A lot of Mr.Food's recipes are quick and easy and not always from scratch so the info is available-just add up what's on the packages. Even bagged flour now has that type of info on it. This is a fun site so keep that in mind, and substitute when necessary. My hubby and I are on strict low sugar/carb/fat diets so educate yourself so you'll be able to adjust a recipe to your needs-or skip it all together if it doesn't fit in with your dietary needs.

What kind of steak sauce, I used Heinz 57 and taste

We used A1 steak sauce, but any brand will do.

The staff at Mr. Food has repeatedly stated that they are working on adding nutritional info to their recipes. I'm sure the staff are not licensed nutritional dietitians, so unless you want them to guess at the numbers, give them time to work out the correct calculations. In the meantime, if nutritional values are imperative, then I would think you should have learned how to figure this out for yourself by now.

I also make this in my crockpot set for 5 hours on low stirring oce an hour, I also use a papertowel on the inside of lid to collect the mosture !! More of a fix it and for get it way of doing the same recipe IMOP

I also agree with grannyblu...and, PrettyGirl 30, she did not tell you you had to go to another site, all she did was suggest you might like a different one! I too like the site just how it is. ( I also have a Mom that is a SEVERE diabetic and so is my husband) You should be able to figure the carbs, etc. out on your own!

Why wash another bowl? Combine dry ingredients right in the bag. And you probably don't need the additional salt - the peanuts, pretzels & crackers have plenty. I'd add garlic or onion powder, tho'. Yummy!

I have not experienced any popups during my visit to this site. One suggestion I have is to offer nutritional information, such as carbohydrates, etc., for the recipes. It would help people with medical conditions choose which recipes are right for them.

This recipe site is for fun easy fast and tasty recipes not... especially for people who simply MUST know carbohydrates calories fat etc There are many other recipe sites who DO give out this information IF you must have all nutritional information before you make a recipe perhaps it may be better to try a different recipe site instead of trying to change this one. I LOVE MR FODD and I also watch my carbs and sugar.. it is not hard to figure ou For example I use sugar twin for most recipes or use half sugar and half sugar twin ( or Splenda) I use light sour cream and light cream cheese etc

I agree with grannyblu - if it is essential for you to know the nutritional value, and you don't have the experience to determine it for yourself - please use the sites designed for your special needs - and quit barking at Mr. Food - who is simply giving us good everyday cooking ideas.

grannyblu- Just because those of us that have diabetes( I am a SEVERE diabetic myself) does not give you the right to tell someone on here that they should maybe go to a different recipe site. We diabetics like to enjoy Mr Food's recipes too, and to be honest, I don't think I have found one that is quite so good as this one. I agree with dublecros about the suggestion for offering nutritional information like carbohydrates, etc on recipes. I support this 100%. Maybe YOU should be the one to complain on other recipe web sites. The rest of us with medical issues that we need to cater to, shouldn't have to feel like we cannot be on this website, simply because we have health issues and need to cater this to our diets.

sharon 12-30-12 Even if carb content is listed it's not a great help because all carbs are not equal. simple carbs white flour, sugar,potatoes these spike your sugar.complex carbs -raw veges , whole wheat flour, rolled oats.These are harder for you to digest so they don't turn to sugar so fast. my husband is type 2 diabetic and after several years i'm finally starting to figure out that we are all different.listen to your body.rice chex may run your sugar up so try wheat or use more nuts. hope this helps. notice carbs but more important is kind of carbs.

Your pop ups interfer everytime I try to copy a recipe from my recipe box or from your front page. This is NOT fun. I won't print from your page because the pictures interfer. Please do something about your pop ups. They have just begun to interfere so much I'm ready to quit your site.

MAybe you need to download a pop up blocker Yahoo has one also google and most others I do not have any pop ups when I print out a recipe download miscrosft security scanner and scan your computer go for viruses get rid of your cookies clean out out your trash &clean out your history everytime you use computer

I used ADBLock and it took care of all my problems.

Thank you for answering the 1/4 tsp of what that was asked repeatedly, but my other question still was not answered and that was in regards to the rice cereal. Is it the kind like "rice Krispies" or the square type like "Rice Chex"? thank-you

Thank-you for clarifying that it is a Chex and not a krispy type of rice cereal. If you notice the original date on my inquiry it was last yr Jan. The update or clarification was made a few days later....Mr. Food's recipes Rock!!
