This one-pan dinner is made with hearty, lean ground beef and better-for-you brown rice, cooked with cabbage, in a rich and flavorful tomato sauce. It's mouthwatering-good!

What You'll Need

  • 1 1/2 pounds lean ground beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 3/4 cup brown rice, uncooked
  • 3 cups coarsely chopped cabbage
  • 1 (8-ounce) can tomato sauce
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 (14-1/2-ounce) can diced tomatoes, undrained
  • 1 1/4 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 1 1/4 teaspoons onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

What to Do

  1. Coat a large skillet with cooking spray. Add beef and onion and saute over medium heat 6 to 8 minutes, or until no longer pink. Drain excess liquid.

How good/healthy would be this be if made with ground venison or turkey?

Hi there! You can surely lighten up this recipe by using ground venison or turkey. We also recommend checking out our Unstuffed Cabbage Skillet recipe on our other website, Everyday Diabetic Recipes. :) Head on over to http://www.everydaydiabeticrecipes.com/Turkey-Misc-Poultry/Unstuffed-Cabbage-Skillet-101 for the complete recipe. Enjoy!

Good basic recipe I use 2 cloves minced garlic with my beef and onion also add 2 beef bouillon cubes with the water . I also only use well rinsed and washed white rice as brown rice has way too much arsenic in it and it is not healthy as they claim.. this recipe is really good served with a good sprinkling of grated cheese over it ! Good winter meal

Quick, easy and tasty, just like a 1000 others we get in our e-mail every day or so.
