Brown Sugar Brownies

You can't go wrong with this recipe for Brown Sugar Brownies. If you under-bake them, they're chewy. If you over-bake them, they're more cakey. Either way, these brownies without chocolate are worth celebrating.

What You'll Need

  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, softened to room temperature
  • 2 cups packed dark brown sugar
  • 2 eggs, well beaten
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup pecan pieces
  • Confectioners' sugar for sprinkling (optional)

What to Do

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Coat well an 8-inch square baking pan with cooking spray.
  2. In a large bowl, cream softened butter; add brown sugar and eggs. Mix thoroughly then add flour and baking powder; blend. Stir in vanilla and nuts then pour batter into prepared baking pan.
  3. Bake 35 to 40 minutes. Cool in pan then cut into squares and sprinkle with confectioners' sugar, if desired.

These sound unique and so tasty. I love unusual recipes like these!

I love these. They are quick and easy to make and they taste so good. I did not top with the sugar because they are sweet enough on their own.

I made these delicious brownies years ago and I lost the recipe. I am sooo thankful that you posted the recipe because they are truly a delicious treat. Thanks again

Sounds great. Would this also be called a Blondie?

I'm sure this makes a very sweet brownie. I think I'll give it a try, though--in fact, I have some not-so-sweet chocolate icing that I'll top it off with. Might be a great combination!

to recipe collector. When eating brownies we don't want to know how much fat etc. there is just enjoy, ha, ha! Besides the only fat is the pecan. now as for sugar content? yeah! a LOT! but sounds good for a treat!

These were quite rich! I could only eat a little bit at a time. I didn't include the pecans and still enjoyed the texture- not too chewy, not too soft. Thanks, Mr. Food!

I am disappointed you no longer include the nutritional values of each recipe. I like to know the calories vs fat vs carb content of each recipe.

Seriously? It's a brownie. But, if you really want to know, there a several websites where you can plug in a recipe and it will give you the nutritional information. is just one of them.

WOW!!!!!!!!!!! This is the BEST light brownie recipe I've ever made!!! I didn't have any Dark brown sugar, so I used the Light...Mixed it up in my stand mixer in a flash, baked it for 35 minutes and it cut up and slid right out of the pan so nice....The taste is "OOH THEY'RE SOOOOO GREAT!", Not to sweet and just the right size for me and my Hubby!! I might have to make another batch TODAY!!!! Thank-You Mr Food!!!!!
