These are perfect for sharing with that special someone in front of the fireplace on a cold winter's night.

What You'll Need

  • 3/4 cup vegetable shortening
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup light molasses
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 3/4 teaspoon ground ginger

What to Do

  1. Preheat the oven to 375 degree F.

  2. In a large bowl, cream the shortening, sugar, egg, and molasses until light and fluffy.

  3. In another large bowl, combine the remaining ingredients. Add the flour mixture to the shortening mixture, mixing well. Form into 1-inch balls and place 2 inches apart on cookie sheets that have been coated with nonstick cooking spray. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes or until golden.

  4. Cool slightly then remove to a wire rack to cool completely.

Makes 2-1/2 to 3 dozen cookies.

Don't be afraid to cut down on any of the spices if you prefer them less spicy.
