Everything Coleslaw

- MAKES
- 4 cups
- CHILL TIME
- 2 Hr
Everybody has a favorite dish to partner with coleslaw. From picnic food to barbecued spareribs, fried chicken and more, this no-fail recipe for Everything Coleslaw works with everything you could possibly serve with coleslaw!
What You'll Need
- 1 cup mayonnaise
- 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
- 3 tablespoons sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon celery seed
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon white pepper
- 6 cups (1 small head) shredded cabbage (see Notes)
- 1 cup (about 2) shredded carrots
What to Do
-
In a large bowl, combine mayonnaise, lemon juice, sugar, celery seed, salt, and pepper. Add shredded cabbage and carrots. Toss to coat well.
-
Cover and chill 2 to 3 hours before serving.
Notes
- Some say coleslaw should be sweet, others say it should be tangy. Well, you can adjust the amount of sugar to your own liking to make it your very own taste. You can also use two 10-ounce packages of pre-shredded coleslaw instead of shredding the cabbage and carrots yourself. It's a nice time-saver when you have little preparation time!

The recipe calls for six cups of cabbage. This recipe makes four cups of slaw. What happened to the other two cups....

Too salty! The mayo, lemon juice and sugar are just the right blend. But that amount of salt killed it. Try cutting the salt in half or leave it out completely.

Everyone in my family loves my coleslaw. I use cabbage and carrots also, and a small amount of onion. In a food processor, I put the mayonaise, vinegar, about a third cup of sugar, salt, pepper, and sweet pickles and blend until smoothe and mix with the cabbage. It is very tasty, sweet and somewhat tangy.

My grandmother always used just cider vinegar and white sugar, beautifully tangy/sweet. I love coleslaw of all types but her way is always the best....and easiest!

Easy and quick. Prefer coarser shred to cabbage than typically found at the deli. Cut back sugar slightly and added a couple TBL of shredded onion. Went well with homemade NC style pulled pork BBQ. Even better the next day.

You can use also Broccoli Cole slaw It's better for you! and you don't taste the broccoli. Also, Truvia natural sweetener is a great alternative for people with diabetes. One packet of Truvia natural sweetener provides the same sweetness as 2 teaspoons of sugar.
