This Cherry Crumble is a definite favorite in the Test Kitchen. Why? Because this warm, sweet dessert melts the vanilla ice cream for a mouthwatering dessert that everyone will love.

What You'll Need

  • 3/4 cup quick-cooking oats, uncooked
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/3 cup cold butter, cut into pieces
  • 1 (21-ounce) can cherry pie filling
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • Vanilla ice cream

What to Do

  1. In a medium bowl, combine oats, flour, sugar, and cinnamon. Cut in butter with a pastry blender or 2 forks until mixture is crumbly.

  2. Combine pie filling and almond extract in a greased 1-quart microwave-safe baking dish. Sprinkle with crumb mixture. Microwave, uncovered, at HIGH 6 minutes or until thoroughly heated. Top each serving with ice cream.

Yes, there are lots of crumble recipes to bake in the oven that I've made for years, but I'm saving this recipe BECAUSE it's six minutes in the microwave. Pop it in as you start dinner, and it's done and warm with ice cream on top for dessert. Mmmmm. PS, I always add some sour cherries to a can of pie filling in any recipe to add more fruit and a little zip!

have kids allergic to tree nuts what would be an alternative for the almond extract. Recipe sounds good and I would like to try

1/2 tsp vanilla or leave extract out.

can this be baked in the oven? What would I do differently, how long to bake at what temp.??? Thank-you

I have made cobblers and crumbles for years...love her versatile they are with different fruits. I would say to bake this in a greased dish/pan at 350*F until it is bubbly. Hope this helps. Enjoy. Y. Miller Chenango Forks, NY

Will taste much better baked in the oven. 350 degrees, it will probably spill over so you might want to place foil on the bottom of your oven. Probably 25-30 minutes, but watch. When it's golden and bubbly it's done.
