Usually a Granny Smith apple is a safe bet. They are a sturdy apple and don't mush up during baking. They are also somewhat tart so they go well with sweet recipes.

As my mother used to say, "for cryin out loud" don't sweat the small stuff. Just make it, enjoy and the leftovers always take care of themselves. This sounds like a keeper

These sound wonderful - will make today. I love simple recipes that don't take a lot time and ingredients. To LL and pcody, read the directions again! It says "starting with the short end!"

So we cut it into 10 slices, i.e. rolls and this says it serves 8. So who gets to eat the other 2 or do we cut them up into 4 portions each and split them? I really wish someone would pay attention to those things.

Would you begin rolling on the long side (the 14 inches)? In order to get 16 3/4 inch thick slices, you would need at least 12 inches. Help, please. I want to make this recipe.

I haven't made this yet, but it says to cut into 10 3/4 inch slices, so I believe you would roll from th short end and make them fat around like the picture displays.
