Versatile canned pumpkin is the secret to loads of favorite autumn and holiday recipes like our to-die-for Pumpkin Doughnut Holes. These easy fritter-like treats cook up fast in a skillet. They're awesome served warm, topped with confectioners sugar.

What You'll Need

  • 2 cups vegetable oil
  • 1 cup self-rising flour
  • 3/4 cup canned pumpkin
  • 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 large egg, lightly beaten
  • 1 teaspoon grated orange rind
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup confectioners' sugar

What to Do

  1. In a soup pot, heat oil over medium heat until hot.
  2. In a large bowl, combine remaining ingredients except confectioners' sugar; mix well.
  3. Drop pumpkin batter by level tablespoonfuls into hot oil and fry 2 minutes or until golden, turning at least once. Drain on paper towels. Repeat with remaining batter. Roll doughnut holes in confectioners' sugar; serve warm.

We're thinking that mugs of hot caramel apple cider would be the perfect go-along for these tasty morsels!

Anyone know if these can be baked instead of fried??? Gave it a 3 because I cannot have fried, but really like all things pumpkin, and would love to make these if they can be baked!

Sorry, these Pumpkin Doughnut Holes can only be fried. We don't have a recipe for baked doughnut holes.

if they aren't sweet wouldn't make sense to add more sugar?

This is not sweet so make sure you roll the donut in the confectioner's sugar instead of just sprinkling it. I think I'll double the spices next time.

This is not sweet so make sure you have the confectioner's sugar. I will probably double the spice recipe next time for my flavor.

My first thinking is that there surely is an ingredient missing. I did not care for these at all. Needs to be sweeter. Fried up to doughy.

HI well after having trouble getting to send you a message, i would like to tell you that i watch you everyday and you have some good food to talk about, now my question is this which one of these onions is the hottest. last night i sliced a yellow onion and my husband said that it was hot enough to set the sandwich on fire yellow onion white onion red onion thank you for your help take care Rose

Splenda makes a variety of sweetners.

It would be very nice if you included food that diebetics could eat and make. I love pumkin pies but can't have anything with a lot of carbs in them or even powered sugar.

I would like to see more gluten-free recipes like this if possible.
