Don't pass by our recipe for Glazed Smoked Picnic Ham, 'cause you're gonna love that the glaze slowly caramelizes as it bakes, sealing in the the ham's natural juices.

What You'll Need

  • 1 1/2 cups ketchup
  • 1 cup white vinegar
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup Worcestershire sauce
  • 3 tablespoons prepared yellow mustard
  • 3 tablespoons light brown sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 (8- to 10-pound) smoked picnic ham

What to Do

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Line a roasting pan with aluminum foil and coated foil with cooking spray.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine all ingredients except the ham; mix well. Place ham in prepared roasting pan. Pour ketchup mixture over the ham.
  3. Bake 2-1/2 to 3 hours, or until ham is glazed, basting every 30 minutes.

I made this ham for Christmas at my daughter's. First of all, she is a ketchup fiend! She eats ketchup with every meat she eats. She said it was the best ham she had ever eaten! She pointed out that she wasn't even putting ketchup on it! This ham might become a Christmas tradition for us. I used a couple of add-ons that I like on a lot of meat dishes: honey and pure maple syrup. No set amounts of those ingredients, just what you might think will work for you. It added a little thickness to the mixture you pour over the ham and then baste with every half hour. The sweetness doesn't hurt either!

do i pour all the ingredients over the ham or do I save some to blasting

is this put in the oven with lid on or off???

No lid please! Enjoy!
