If you like drizzling caramel over your desserts, then you've got to try this super simple recipe for Homemade Caramel Sauce. You'll be happy to learn that you can make a homemade caramel sauce in just about the same amount of time that it takes to heat up a store-bought sauce!

What You'll Need

  • 3/4 cup butter
  • 1 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 cup whipping cream

What to Do

  1. Combine butter and brown sugar in a heavy saucepan; cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until sugar dissolves.
  2. Gradually add whipping cream; cook, stirring constantly, until mixture comes to a boil. Remove from heat, and cool slightly. Serve warm over ice cream, gingerbread, or pound cake.

Love this stuff, never lasts more than a couple days because we devour it. Use canned evaporated milk when out of heavy cream Added honey that crystallized and it was awesome too NEVER use margarine is separates awful Haven't added vanilla before can't wait, thanks for the tip drgnqwn2b

Added about a 1/2 tsp of vanilla bean paste...OMG-it's SO good! ;)

How long can you store it?

I'd like to know this also.. ?
