Ranch Dressing

(4 Votes)
Ranch Dressing

At one time or another, we've all fallen into the bottled salad dressing rut and wished for a fresh flavor to drizzle on our greens or toss with our tomatoes. Why not make your own dressing? I always do! It's easy, tasty, and inexpensive, too!

What You'll Need

  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon white vinegar
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1 teaspoon minced fresh dill
  • 1/8 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon black pepper

What to Do

  1. In a medium bowl, combine all ingredients; whisk until smooth. Serve, or cover and chill until ready to serve.

Makes about 1 cup dressing.

I use Greek yogurt rather than buttermilk. If you prefer buttermilk, you are able to buy powdered buttermilk, and add water to it. Keep the powdered milk stored in the fridge. I never added vinegar and oil to it will need to try this.

Yum! I did have to add a little extra milk, maybe a tablespoon or so (I didn't measure) just to get it out of the container easier, but will be making this again for sure! For those of you without buttermilk, like I was, just mix milk with white vinegar. 1 cup of milk to 1 teaspoon of vinegar, so for this recipe I did 1/4c milk with 1/4t vinegar and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes and then added the rest of the ingredients. YUM!

This ranch dressing is GREAT! However I found that Fresh Dill didn't work for me so I used dried dill, and that was a lot better, as far as taste. I also found that this recipe comes out kinda thick so, I added about 1tablespoon of milk or so, just to make it a little thinner. But, overall, a wonderful recipe for dip and as a dressing!!! I will never buy bottled ranch again, when I can make my own at home! Thanks Mr. Food!

What do you do if you don't have buttermilk?
