Roasted Chestnuts

Mr. Food's crunchy Roasted Chestnuts can be made to taste either savory or sweet. Try this quick side dish this holiday season.

What You'll Need

  • 1 pound chestnuts

What to Do

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

  2. Using a paring knife, cut an "X" in the top of each chestnut. (This keeps the nuts from bursting in the oven.) Place the chestnuts on a baking sheet.

  3. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes, or until tender. Allow to cool slightly then remove nuts from shells, and serve.

Notes

These are yummy as is, or sprinkled with salt, ground red pepper, or cinnamon-sugar.

Yields 5-6 servings.

All my life, I have heard of roasted chestnuts but I do not think I have ever partaken in them. This is a recipe to save and pull out in the fall months to be prepared for the holiday season. Glad an open fire is not a necessity .

During Christmas I really enjoy listening to the song mentioning chestnuts but I never thought about it as an actual activity. Right now it is almost the start of summer and I wonder if I would find these in the local stores right now. Checking online in a few because I would like to create this activity for our family this coming winter. Found them and saving the link to order soon but not too soon.
